4K UHD

4K UHD (Ultra HD) is a display resolution of 3840 × 2160 pixels — four times the pixel count of Full HD (1920 × 1080). On signage it keeps text and fine detail sharp on large screens viewed up close.

4K UHD, explained

4K only pays off when every link in the chain supports it: the panel, the player hardware, and the content itself.

Why it matters

  • Content at native resolution. Export images and video at 3840 × 2160 for a 4K screen. Upscaled 1080p content looks soft next to true 4K.
  • Player headroom. Decoding 4K video takes a capable chipset. Budget media players may play 4K images but struggle with 4K video.
  • File size. 4K video files are several times larger than 1080p, which affects download time to each screen.

For small screens viewed from a distance, Full HD is often indistinguishable from 4K and cheaper to run.
