System on Chip (SoC)

A System on Chip (SoC) is the processor, memory and graphics combined on one chip inside a display. On commercial signage screens, the SoC can run the signage player directly, so no external media player is needed.

SoC displays remove a box, a power supply and an HDMI cable from every installation.

Why it matters

  • Fewer parts. Nothing to mount behind the screen, and fewer things to fail.
  • Tied to the panel. The display’s processor, storage and firmware set the limits for playback and features.
  • Commercial models only. SoC signage platforms are features of commercial displays, not every consumer smart TV from the same brand.
