How to Set Up a Portrait (Vertical) Digital Signage Screen

Portrait screens are ideal for posters, tall menus, directories and fashion imagery — and they fit narrow walls and pillars that a landscape screen can’t. Setting one up means getting three things right: the mounting, the orientation setting and the content size.

Step 1 — Check portrait support

Check the display’s manual. Many commercial displays support portrait mounting; many consumer TVs don’t, because vertical mounting can affect cooling. The manual also tells you which direction to rotate the display — often it matters which side the control buttons or vents end up on.

Step 2 — Mount the screen

Use a mount rated for portrait use and your display’s weight. Leave space for ventilation and route cables so they don’t strain the ports. Keep the player reachable if you’re using an external one.

Step 3 — Set portrait orientation

In the Loopvew CMS, open the Screens tab, open the screen’s settings and set its orientation to portrait. The Screens table shows each screen’s orientation, so you can confirm it at a glance.

Step 4 — Design portrait content

Create content at the portrait resolution:

Landscape content on a portrait screen will show with large bars or be cropped, so keep separate portrait and landscape playlists. Portrait layouts suit:

• One tall hero image with a headline at the top.
• Menus as a single column of items.
• Directories listed floor by floor.

Step 5 — Publish and check

Publish a portrait playlist to the screen and check:

• Content fills the screen edge to edge.
• Nothing is upside down or rotated the wrong way.
• Text is readable from the viewing distance.
